The premature death on 19th August of Mrs. Bridget Williams, former Headmistress of Notre Dame School, was very sad. She was a determined, generous and kind hearted woman who always had a welcoming smile.
She joined Notre Dame Senior School as Headmistress in 2003. During her ten year tenure as Head, the school flourished and many important new facilities were added. These include the Lestonnac Resource Centre (2004), Jary Science Facility (2008) and the fantastic Montaigne Theatre (2011). Whether she was inspiring the girls in assembly with her famous catchphrase ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’ or dressing up as the Queen of Hearts at the Summer Fair, she threw herself into the life of the school with passion, commitment and enthusiasm. Bridget put the care and welfare of both staff and girls first in the spirit of a Company of Mary educator. She was a wonderful colleague with a fabulous sense of humour. One of a kind, in the words of Michael Jackson, she was “gone far too soon!”
We will always remember her as a loyal friend. May she rest in everlasting peace.
